Andrea Sotelo
Andrea Sotelo (Mexico City) is a visual artist with a background in Design, whose practice spans experimental animation, sculpture, and painting. To expand her conceptual and technical exploration, she pursued a Master's degree in artistic practice and experimental film at Master LAV, Audiovisual Laboratory for Contemporary Creation and Practice, in Madrid.
Her work investigates the transformations of female iconography over time, drawing parallels between different cultures and analyzing how certain attributes have been symbolically constructed as feminine. This visual research allows her to question and reconfigure the values that shape identity and corporeality from a critical and contemporary perspective.
She was awarded the Jóvenes Creadores (Young Creators) grant from FONCA for the 2023–2024 cycle in the painting category, and was selected for the Julio Castillo National Painting Biennial in Querétaro. Her most recent solo exhibition, Amarre, was presented in April at Galería Unión (Mexico City). In November 2024, she participated in a group exhibition at the Museo de Arte de Zapopan. She has taken part in numerous group exhibitions in Mexico and Spain, and her work has been selected for experimental film and animation festivals in Mexico, Spain, and the United States.
She currently lives and works between Mexico City and Madrid.
